COLLABORATING WITH AN EXISTING COFFEE BRAND, WE SET OUT TO SEE HOW WE COULD CREATE A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS TOGETHER, BY CREATING A BRAND IDENTITY FROM THE INSIDE OF THE BUSINESS RATHER THAN JUST BEING AN OUTSIDE COLLABORATOR.
A coffee bar brand identity, but not as you know it.
Outlier coffee bar is an integrated design project, a collaboration with an existing coffee brand we set out to see how a successful business could be created using the design process we know well.
We set out to create a business model and visual language that would have impact and be modular in approach, creating an opportunity for the business model to be used in a different location with a unique visual story telling style.
By becoming a financial partner in the business, the creation of the brand identity from the inside rather than being an outside collaborator gave a new perspective to the design process and the outcome; from business development, financial management to the brand identity and roll-out to the creation of the modular coffee bar the barista would worked from.
The integrated design outcome was a successful one.
Over the course of the project the brand developed, from the visual communication across print and digital media through to the addition of a subscription based model to gain customer retention, to of course the cliché signage systems that are tried and true to attract the passing parade of the caffeine starved.
It was a successful concept, which has now influenced further plans for the future using the integrated design principles.
